13th
Annual Central Avenue Jazz Festival.
This
year's festival honors the renaissance
that was LA's Central Avenue, known
simply as "the avenue," from
the 1920s through the 1950s. Featuring
live jazz, ethnic cuisine and educational
displays, this event includes performances
by musicians Al Williams & Jazz
Society, Justo Almario Quartet, and
more. July 26th to 27th.

The
Sid Saga: Sid Laverents' Centennial
Birthday Party.
Amateur filmmaker Sid Laverents
burst into national attention
at age 92, when his deliriously
funny film "Multiple SIDosis"
was selected for inclusion in
the National Film Registry.
As he turns 100, his friends
at UCLA are throwing a party
so everyone can get a chance
to meet this astonishing artist,
sing "happy birthday"
and see Sid's work. August
7th.

Thanks Google for fueling the fire in my neurotic ways. My newfound obsession with the Slow Loris is due to my own curiosity... but the interest in the Trash Vortex, a collection of trash about the size of Texas swirling about in the Pacific, was sparked by Saturday's Glow 2008 at the Santa Monica Beach and Pier...
